Storm Info from the Mayor
Release Date: March 13, 2017

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR PAUL ROSENBERG

Dear Rye Brook Resident:

With a winter storm approaching our region late tonight into tomorrow, I wanted to pass along some important information to you so that you can be prepared for this powerful storm.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night, with heaviest snow expected Tuesday morning/afternoon.  Accumulations of 2-4 inches per hour are expected with total accumulation expected to be from 12-18 inches.  Wind speeds will be 20-30 mph with gusts of 35-50 mph.  Due to the forecasted blizzard conditions, please note the following:

  • For your safety, please stay at home during the snow storm and avoid unnecessary travel.  Do not park in roadways. This provides the opportunity for public works to more effectively clear the snow (we apologize in advance for creating snow mounds at the end of driveways with the plows as they pass.  This is an unavoidable consequence of plowing the roadways and cannot be avoided).
  • All Tuesday sanitation services (garbage, recycling) are moved to Wednesday. All Wednesday pickups will remain the same (please note that in order to have your garbage and recycling picked up, clear access must be provided for the sanitation company employees and the materials must be uncovered from any snow).
  • Village offices and the AJP senior center will be closed on Tuesday and all village-run recreation activities will be cancelled.
  • Village Emergency Services (Police, Fire, EMS) will be staffed.  Please call 911 for any emergency.  The non-emergency Police phone number is 914-937-1020.
  • The Village Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Tuesday is being moved to Wednesday.
  • The Architectural Review Board meeting on Wednesday is being moved from Village Hall (938 King St.) to the Firehouse conference room (940 King St).
  • Please do not clear off cars in the street or place snow from driveways or sidewalks back into the street.  This creates unsafe driving conditions and is a violation.  Please also remind any contractors of this requirement as well.

As always, we recommend that you prepare for the worst: keep flashlights and extra batteries at the ready, charge up your cell phones and laptops, and check in on elderly friends and neighbors.

In the event of a power outage, call 1-800-75-CONED, or text "REG" to "OUTAGE" to make a report. You can also download the ConEd app on your iPhone or Android smartphone to easily report outages and check on estimated restoration times -- you will need to have your account number handy to register with the app, so be sure to have it on hand to get set up. You can also use these services to report downed wires, which should also be reported to the police department.

Thank you.
Paul Rosenberg
